PowerMed Solo
PowerMed Solo is a single user, non-networkable, subscription based version of PowerMed Practice
Suite, and includes EMR, Billing, and Scheduling, with additional specialty modules that can be
configured by the end user.
The single objective of PowerMed Solo is to offer an affordable, feature rich EMR and Billing solution to
potential single license users, such as Physicians, Chiropractors, Podiatrists, Therapists, College student
health centers (which may be part of the Apple Education program), or virtually any professional
organization handling patient medical records.
Compatibility and Upgrade Options
PowerMed Solo is compatible with all Macintosh OSX versions through Leopard (check with PowerMed
for compatibility with later versions), and Windows 2000 through Vista. PowerMed Solo can be fully
upgraded to PowerMed Practice Suite, which has been deployed by large medical practices throughout
the US and abroad.
PowerMed Practice Suite and PowerMed Solo compared
The only functional difference between the two programs is that PowerMed Solo can’t be networked – it
can only be used on one computer. This does require a certain amount of extra care to ensure backups
are made and properly secured. Since Solo is designed for business – not home use and will contain
very sensitive data, users are well advised to be very conservative and avoiding running other programs
simultaneously with Solo, and exercising appropriate due diligence to avoid corruption, crashes, and
possible viruses.
Unlike Practice Suite, Solo is subscription based. Your monthly fee covers program updates (performed
via the web) technical support, and continued full use of the program. If a subscription is cancelled, the
program becomes “read only.” That means additional information can’t be entered, but old information
can continue to be read.
In order to keep fees as low as possible, at the current time support and training of Solo is limited to EMR
and Appointments only. Users are welcome to use all aspects of the Billing module and the online user’s
manual for guidance.
